3,5 sterren.

My three moods while reading this book:

The beginning: not bad...
The middle: ohoho here we go
The end: GASFDJSJRTEQUTRWYRSFGZJ

That sums it all up pretty nicely lol

Solid start to the series. I really like the FMC and absolutely adore Tipp the lil cutie-patootie!! I also really like Naari, she's cool and I wish she had more of a character arc.

The writing itself is solid and flows really well. It's accessible and relatively easy to comprehend.

The plot is interesting but I will say, the way some of the trials play out is super flimsy and lacks a sense of doom or intensity. They are actually a little on the boring side and amping up the difficulty would have added so much more feeling to the book.
Example:
The first trial for air was a jump from a railing to a wall that was super far away. That's all. It felt really lacklustre.

I also hated how many times a chapter ended with
fade to black because she was knocked out. I've already started to read the 2nd book and this trope continues into it early on 😮‍💨

Some of the plot twists, whilst interesting and upping the ante, also kind of fall flat because they aren't that believable with how we see the world through the FMC's eyes. The hints are there but not enough from the FMC to believe it or feel the connection.

The MMC is cute and I do love a guy who simps and I want more of that. But I also want more tension.

Overall, I did actually really enjoy the book and I think the narration had a lot to do with it too! I'm definitely going to finish the series

OMG. this was EPIC. i really liked the storyline, and the PLOTS TWISTS?? i literally had to cover the next page in fear of being spoiled.

however, i didn’t liked kiva that much.
i get that she can be traumatised and everything, but she’s not the strong female protagonist that i would have liked her to be (idk if that makes sense
