A tale that is all at once heartbreaking, frustrating, and so very steamy.

I spent the whole book clinging to the development of Miriam and Rachel, begging for Rachel to heal, and craving frozen yogurt. I love the insight into Rachel's thoughts, the way Broder writes. The detail that makes it easy to imagine every moment, which is something I usually struggle with.

A story that truly exemplifies the notion that some people are not meant to be in our lives forever, and we are still able to - and should be - grateful for what they provide while they are here. The lessons they teach, the memories they create, and the person they shape us to be.

I really didn’t have a strong reaction to this book, and for me that’s quite telling. The super short chapters are probably the main thing that kept me reading, and the book felt oddly paced and the ending was really rushed. Some of the scenes/ imagery felt like Broder was just trying to be weird for the sake of it, and served no real purpose. I didn’t like the main character and I felt she didn’t have much of a personality apart from wanting to be liked. This book will probably be very triggering if you have issues with food, and I do applaud her nuances discussions of sexuality, self image and eating. Some of the writing just felt too ‘gen z’ (someone is described as looking like the embarrassed emoji??). Within a book where one of the central themes is Judaism, I’m glad Broder discussed the genocide against the Palestinian people. Though I don’t feel like it was done justice to and felt like a plot point more than anything. I’ll definitely read Broder’s other works but this one unfortunately wasn’t for me
