It took me a little longer to get into this series. BUT other reviewers SWEAR by this book. It wasn't for me but doesn't mean it was bad. The series gets better after the first 2 books and I think the first 2 books do a really good job setting up physically and emotionally. For some reviewers this series is GOD TIER so don't go just off me!

I'm glad we got more of Queen Malina in this book, though I don't like how absent Midas has been from the storyline. However, based on how this book ended, I'm hoping there will be more of him going forward. I also wish the pace were faster, because we're two books in, and it feels like barely anything has happened. I keep wondering when the action is going to start. Despite that, I am still enjoying myself. Those last few chapters were fantastic! The characters' emotional depth and development are so good. Also, there was less sexual assault in this one, which I was thankful for.

It was fine. Her writing is lovely and I want to keep reading the series because I’m hooked on the questions and story but I’m kinda annoyed with how short the books are- like the first 2 could be one book.
