A lot of issues are brought up in this book, but they were handled pretty well. I think this would be an important read to teens in high school, because the understanding of bullying (in terms of mental health) is phenomenal. I liked the characters, especially Jason. I found it relatively easy to walk in his shoes.

This book was unsettling to read. The writing made me feel like I wasn't always sure what was going on and kept getting ripped away from the important things. But I strongly suspect that was what the author intended. And if so, she did it very, very well.

Great book. Three teens who are all special needs have a unique friendship. One day one of them goes missing. The other two won't give up looking for the third friend. A great story about friendship and challenges some people face.

Can I just say that in a weird kind of way this is one of the most romantic books I've ever read? Good. Try not to let that keep you away, because it's worth the read. It's heartbreaking, yet funny and inspiring. It also shames you for every thought you've had about someone with a disability. It gives them a voice that most people ignore. I'm curious about the author's experience, and therefore the accuracy of the protagonist and his condition. But still a great read.

really solidly just not sure how to feel on this one, and erring on the side of negativity, because if it weren't so short i think i would have gotten sick of it. while the narration was very unique & enjoyable (probably the best part of this book), the plot felt meandering and not nearly as urgent as i expected from the summary. + i had some issues with the way this book handled its issues. for example: pushing a "we're-all-freaks your-oddness-makes-you-strong" narrative (while also not romanticizing mental illness, that was fine) but then having its only characters with personality disorders be brutal one-dimensional bullies. or the fact that sunshine, the impetus of the entire plot, felt a little too manic-pixie-dream-girl for my tastes. i feel like there has to be a way to flesh out a character who's physically missing other than by making the narrator repeatedly reminisce about his romantic feelings for her. and sunshine's lack of distinct personality felt especially egregious with regards to the ending.
Spoiler i guessed the plot twist of this book early on. like, early. and i kept thinking... surely, if we are going to have a CSA reveal dropped on us, it's going to happen now so that the author can have time to actually address that. surely we'll get that reveal now. ....now, then. .....well, then, now? ...and then it happened, like, three pages from the end in the VAGUEST way possible, to the point where i almost feel like a clown typing "CSA reveal" in case it turns out I've completely misread the implications. which. just feels like a weird as hell way to handle an issue of that size & depth. especially one that in-story was enough to make one of the characters run away from home permanently.

tl;dr: fast read, cool narration, weird issue-handling, ultimately dissatisfying.

Not really where I thought it was going to go.... it wasn't bad but could get a little confusing between the narrator and the voices in his head.

Great book about a kid with schizophrenia trying to deal with the disappearance of a friend. Books don't always get mental disease right, but this one did!
