Storm Prey by John Sandford

The plot seemed to spiral out of control and while I'm sure it was intentional to the book--the bad guys aren't too smart--it actually felt like Sandford lost some control of where the characters were going. The final scene is worth getting through the book.

Just great! Sandford's bad guys are so bad...and dumb!! Folks always used to say how twisted Stephen King's mind must be, but King's mind has nothing on Sandford's. Wonderful characters and story lines!

I enjoyed it. I do agree with one other reviewer in that I think his series highlighting Virgil Flowers is better.

I don't want to think about how much research John Sandford had to do regarding the conjoined twin surgery. I'm sure a surgeon could poke holes in it forever. Still, the amount of detail provided was astonishing to a layperson. The twin's surgery is a significant touch point in Storm Prey. The technical detail of the surgery wasn't too dry or irrelevant, overall. Initially though, it did make the story drag, but it stays strong once the groundwork is in place.

From my notes: "Weather's rage brave, love it ." Weather's response to threats or intimidation is to get angry. Her response to the motorcycle rider is fantastic. Her reaction was dangerous for her and others around them, but rage bravery is totally a thing. It makes Weather so relatable, and it's fiction, so it's admirable in her.

I enjoyed Storm Prey. The crimes kept escalating as the criminals attempted to cover their tracks, and Lucas rose to the challenge.

This series is always consistently good. Lucas and his crew look into a robbery at the hospital pharmacy. Lots of bodies, suspense, humor and excellent narration by Richard Ferrone made this well worth the listening time.

Ugh. I just couldn't. Poorly written. Fragmented storyline. Cookie cutter characters. Got to page 76 and did all I could to get there. Didn't retain my interest.
