I super enjoyed reading this book. All (or at least most of) the characters are super likable and the plot is interesting, though I wish I hadn't seen the trailer for the movie, as it kind of spoiled Portia's big secret for me.

An interesting, detailed book but the narrator wasn’t likable.

I loved this book! The writing was amazing, and the plot was good. A++ I gushed a lot on my blog at https://elysathebiblioblogger.wordpress.com/2016/08/05/book-vs-movie-admission/

Interesting insight into the college admissions process, plus fairly compelling as a narrative, albeit one that centers on a protagonist who sinks abruptly into depressive episodes throughout the book. There could have been some trimming because the depressive episodes and the ruminations on the admissions process felt repetitive at times, but I was still very interested. Even though it's a novel (not a self-help guide), I would recommend this for students and parents who are about to embark on the college admissions process, particularly because of its central (and often-repeated) thesis that there are simply way more brilliant, wonderful children than there are slots in the top tier schools, and it's important not to tie a child's self-worth up with expectations of getting one of those few, coveted, spots.

This book took me longer to finish than I expected. It felt like many stories built into one. Not all equally compelling but the main character Portia was relatable enough for me to enjoy her story.

Too much like a brochure for Princeton. Florid writing.

A fun beach read. The Ent. Weekly review on the cover says it all: "compulsively readable." This makes me want to be a college admissons officer like whoa!

At times it seemed a bit forced, the way a lot of pieces fell together in a neat little package. But, a twist at the end caught me by surprise and all in all, I did really like the book.
