Sleepaway Girls piles overdone cliche on top of overdone cliche, and tops it all off with hokey pop-culture references & absurdly self-aware psychobabble (witness the fifteen year-old girl earnestly telling her friends "I'm a people pleaser...").

It is incredibly unbelievable in parts (at one point, dozens of people fail to recognize a girl they've spent the last 7 weeks living with because she has painted red circles on her cheeks & put on a yarn wig. Puh-leez!) and by the second chapter, you already know pretty much everything that is going to happen in the entire book.

It's completely unoriginal, but as far as mindless beach reads go, it could be much worse.

i got an ARC of this. needs some major revisions before publication- maybe making it seem less like it was written by a 5th grader?

10/16/19 3.5/5 stars this book! Wow! Some thoughts I had whilst reading:
- Parent Trap except Sam and Ashley aren’t long lost twins they’re just... soon to be stepsisters...
- The Pretty Committee Strikes Back except... Cole doesn’t have heterochromia iridium (like Cam)
- My camp experiences brought back to life except with HOT BOYS!!! To be honest... kind of brought up some memories I wish had not surfaced... so... probably won’t reread again
- Mal and Sam’s relationship was actually very interesting and a good lesson
- If I read the word “pinnie” one more time I’m going to scream
The Im not like other girls energy is strong here

Overall a cute book. Descriptions/scene setting could have been a bit more developed so I just imagined the same layout as the camp from parent trap.

I was looking for a quick easy read and when I saw the title I thought it would be a great read for summer. This book was an extreme disappointment for me from the horrible wiring to the cliche characters. What really got me was a first Calonita describes Alexis to have brown hair and gray eyes then later in the book she has blonde hair and green eyes??? The book just made me anxious and I was glad to be done with it.

Thank goodness it’s finally over. From the extremely dated pop culture references, to the bad fanfic outfit descriptions and cliched rivalry, to the EXTREMELY cringey older teen who hits on (and eventually assaults one of) his underage subordinates, I hated every second of this book and couldn’t wait for it to be done. So yay, it’s done?

Brilliant book! Those girls have the kind of freedom and bravery that I wish I had when it comes to boys. One of the cute main characters is named Cole....:)!!!!!!
