This was my 2nd read through, and it was just as good (better?) than the first. So fun going back and seeing the breadcrumbs of the mystery and reliving the gorgeous descriptive passages. I adore this book. It transcends genre, and has one of the most exciting endings. Before you read: Know that the pacing is inconsistent throughout the book, and toward the beginning there's a section that feels slower. Don't let this stop you from seeing it all the way through!

Lovely

A sweet reminder of how beautiful nature can be and a story of how humans can take all that for granted simply because it is unknown or unusual.

I didn’t really enjoy Owens writing style. She really lays it on thick with the overly flowery language so it feels contrived. The dialect that she writes in the first quarter to half of the book feels really off and unnecessary. It also feels extremely sad with no purpose. I gave it 3 stars because I don’t mind the plot/concept and can understand why people like it.

This is a literary work of art. Slow and painful to read at times while covering some really hard topics, but a work of art nonetheless.

Wasn’t as good as others hyped it up to be, found some holes in the plots.. Though language and writing was beautiful, don’t think I’d ever read again.

This book is definitely in my top favorites. Every concept, situation, or philosophy this book explored spoke to me. I related so much to Kya and love her connection to nature. Jumpin and Mabel are incredibly dear to me. And Tate!! We all need a Tate Walker.

“Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.” The best description of this beautifully crafted book.
