I liked it.
Even though the plot is predictable and a bit cheesy, I enjoyed it. But why Sparks's books always ended up with dead people? Hmm.
But overall I loved the storyline even though it's not exactly my favorite. :)

I would have to agree with some of the other reviews I read prior to opening this novel when it came to the often repetitive nature of Sparks's writing. It did not appear that he had a lot to say, but he certainly managed to reach his word count. This is the first of Sparks's books that I've read and I was a little disappointed. There is certainly a lot of hype around this author, but I'm not sure that it is well based. I will continue to read his novels in search of anything I may be missing on this front. The Lucky One achieves an official "okay" stamp of approval.

Edit:// (February 15, 2013) Sometimes after reading books, then looking back at my read books, I decide that I liked the book more than I had rated it originally. I know ratings aren't that big of a deal, but I think so long & hard about them to give a perfect rating. But thinking back on this one, I think it was seriously 5 stars. I actually really liked it. I still think about it sometimes. So even though I originally had it as 4 stars, I'm bumping it up to five.
------------
The only reason I started this book was because I keep seeing the trailer in the movie theater, and I love Nicholas Sparks, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm not really one to like the whole chapter POV thing, and so that was kind of upsetting, but I eventually got used to it. I LOVED Thibault and everything about him. Clayton annoyed the crap out of me, but I enjoyed reading his chapters. He is really what added the drama to the book. I fell in love with Thibault's dog, Zeus, and it was adorable how Beth's little boy Ben loved Zeus. The book was really quite adorable, and it's an amazing story. I read it really fast because I couldn't put it down. I love the way it ends, although it really was unexpected. I would deffinitley give this book a try, especially becasue the movie is coming out!
My mom asked me over dinner the other night "Could you tell it was Nicholas Sparks' writing even if you weren't told who wrote it?" - if that makes sense. But the thing is, I think you can. All of his books sort of have the same set up. And most of the time, they have death. And they don't always end happy. I feel like that is unique for a lot of love story authors.
