My struggle with high fantasy is keeping track of characters, but the author is amazing and has a glossary of characters and definitions in the back. đđť

I think it was a cool concept. I definitely enjoyed that it was normalized in the society for queens to rule, the line of succession was only based on eldest & not gender, race wasnât an issue it was merely regional (it wouldnât be so regional if the plague didnât exist), & there were sapphic storylines.
All in all, I liked this book. It was interesting. Near the 650pg mark, I did wish it was over. I didnât find myself WANTING to pick it up. I wanted to READ and thatâs a huge difference for me. I didnât give up because I felt like it had to be worth it in the end. I donât think it was. The entire book mounted to this huge end battle and it wasnât amazing or unbelievable. It was predictable and nothing shocking occurred.
Graphic: Classism, Grief, Animal cruelty, Miscarriage, Trafficking, and Pregnancy
Moderate: Lesbophobia, Injury/Injury detail, and Kidnapping
Minor: Death of parent and Incest

I loooooved the role of women in this book and the men being like helpful side characters
I love the parallels between this book and the real world regarding misogyny.
Another fun parallel is the concept of balance of nature which I 100% believe in this world as well.
My thoughts on the ending - â ď¸â ď¸SPOILERS â ď¸â ď¸
I kinda loooved the witch of the woods character. Slayed.
đ missing Margrets marriage
Iâm glad they didnât give up their respective careers and paths but 10 years đđđđ I wish their betrothal was more of a moment than her just saying have you heard of this thing⌠I totally love and get them following their own paths but oft it broke me.
Tane??? Damp with blood? Huh? What a cliff hanger. But Iâm so glad nayimathun didnât die.
I love loth and margrets impending swap of responsibility and just both of their characters in general I love.
Roos. What a roller coaster I felt for that man. I was sobbing at the end regardless. Aleidine is mother and queen for what she did and her attitude. EVEN WANTING TO SET NICKLAYS UP AGAIN. I CANT.
I feel like the end went by really quick and got wrapped up really quickly. But I also like how it all played out anyways. I feel like the battle also couldâve been longer or had more go wrong but Iâm also not complaining.
I think the slow start and the fast wrap up is what doesnât get it to a 5âď¸ for me but I loved it all the same.
Moderate: Misogyny, Death, Miscarriage, Blood, and Injury/Injury detail
