What a fascinating history of middl....zzz.. zzz.. zzz...

holy crap this was boring. I mean, I love LOTR lore, etc., but you have to REALLY love Tolkein lore to read through these. There were times where I felt like I was reading Deuteronomy where everyone begat someone else.

Call me a bad fan, but this was not great reading.

This is genesis but for middle earth.  Creation, the fall, etc.  also includes all the begets, some geography, accounts of battles over objects, and the corruption that can come about through envy and the exercise of free will.  Dry and tragic, but imaginative and informative

100% suggest audiobook for this if you’re not exceptional with pronunciation and keeping up with the 5 million characters, backstories, and relationships in this tale. I finally finished this book after 6 years trying to read it multiple times and always giving up, but it is wonderful once you get into it and research the characters more outside of just reading about them in the book.

4/5 only because of the struggle.
