Twisted, deranged, toxic and sweet;)
The writing is at times morbidly poetic, and them talking about how dark and sick they are, sometimes drags on a bit much, but also has some really good lines i can really appreciate. And I love the twisted unique healing. However despite all the kinks and insanity didn’t seem as dark as i expected.
“Whatever makes you sick is so fucking twisted that it heals me.”
“Bloodthirsty looks good on you, hero.”

Dnf’d from the beginning. It’s so volatile, I’d almost call it bad. Hey, usually I am all for the bad boys and violance, but it’s very offputting in this book. Murdering and watching a girl die while discussing it’s process in the beginning is just too much for me. Suprised it’s so highly rated.

Yes this book is exactly as dark as expected. Whilst I read romance with dark themes, for me to really enjoy the romance needs to be epic. This one just missed the mark for me. I struggle when the insides thoughts don't match the outside actions. I really hated them together to be honest. But the book itself was intriguing. Maybe just on the too dark for me side because there wasn't the epic sweetness to each other that I need to enjoy these types of books.

Welcome to Vilehouse, where every choice has a price and some bargains are paid in blood.
Sick Bargain is book one in the Vilehouse series, and it is dark, not “a little edgy” dark, but full-on, twisted, heavy-hitting dark. This MM romance blends hidden identity, small-town secrets, cults, gangs, and a splash of secret society madness into one chaotic, addictive storm.
We follow Remiel, a music shop owner whose family is haunted by a legacy of suicide. Desperate to break the cycle, he heads to Vilehouse and makes a deal to swap out his life. Enter Krypt, the eerie, masked “vile boy” in purple who makes that deal with him and sets everything into motion.
The first 30% was a bit slow for me, but it serves a purpose: world-building. You meet the people, unravel the social structure of Vilehouse, and get hints of just how unhinged things can (and will) become. But once the second half hits? I could not look away. It’s dark, deranged, and oddly beautiful.
Remiel and Krypt’s dynamic is filled with secrets, longing, and sharp edges. It’s a romance that isn’t safe, but it is fascinating. And somehow, amidst the violence and shadows, there’s a thread of hope and something almost tender.
I’ll absolutely be continuing this series… even if everyone in it might be a little sick. 🖤
