Reflective, sometimes anguished read. Recommend for folks in the PNW, those interested in post-ww2 identity and community building, and anyone trying to make sense of *gestures vaguely at the US* all this
Graphic: Bullying, Death, Misogyny, Racial slurs, Racism, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Xenophobia, Antisemitism, Grief, Religious bigotry, Car accident, Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Cultural appropriation, War, Injury/Injury detail
cw for a lot of racial slurs, but make sense given the topic/context and it’s writing in 1952
a bit hard to read at times but a vitally important piece of american literature nonetheless. should be required reading for all PNW students, in my opinion.

sometimes the comma-less prose does a great job translating the state of mind which Ichiro finds himself in, and at other times it feels like a chore to dig through. the more profound sections of this book hit quite hard, and on the whole this book is purposeful and important

A specific thought began to overwhelm my reading experience about a third of the way into this novel. It was just... This is it. Not really sure what "it" is, but No-No Boy is it.

4 for 4: all of the books in multi ethnic american lit were absolutely devastating. Thanks for that william
