I didn't expect Snotlout to basically get his own book - especially so late in the series but I think it worked really well. For most of the series Snotlout has been a fairly static character but in this book (and a little in the previous one too I guess) he becomes a fully three dimensional character but while you can empathise with him he is still awful which is much more nuanced than you might expect.
This book is also about betrayal and and while this is somewhat comedic in some ways I am dreading the last book a little. I was interesting discovering what I thought to be a fan theory (Toothless being a sea dragonus giganticus maximus ) to actually be a spoiler though! All this time and I never had a clue!
I have no idea how Hiccup is going to get through the last book with the way this one ended though! Poor guy always has a terrible time in the last 100 pages or so!
