I really enjoyed to format and layout of this book. I have missed my old friend Tempe Brennan.
Tempe wakes up and realizes she been dumped in a cold, dark, damp place and tied hands and feet.

206 Bones by Kathy Reichs
I'm a big fan of the Bones TV show, but I'm fully aware that the only thing the books and the programme have in common is Tempe Brennan. Having said that, I think the character in the books is far more likeable. The relationship she has with Ryan is brilliant and I often spent a lot of time waiting for them to meet up. I've read another of Reichs books which I must say, I enjoyed more. I read that within a matter of days, this took me a lot longer. I love Reichs' style of writing, but sometimes, she doesn't say who's speaking and I have to back track a few lines to work out who says what. I was also quite confused with the several cases going on, and the several aliases that one man had. Having said that, Reichs has the much needed pull that some authors do not, the one that keeps you turning the pages, no matter what time of night. Although I was disappointed with this book, I'll definately read more Reichs books.

My only problem is why does Brennan always have to wind up in the hospital? Can't she figure out that everybody seems to want her dead?

4.5! I am a bit bias to this series since this television is one of my favorites of all time! Even with all the differences this is still a solid read! If you enjoy very technical novels, with a highlight of drama! I admit I have quite a hard time reading these novels within a few days of watching the show...I favor tv Brennan! I love the tie-in these novels have with the show...Ryan calling Tempe buttercup...Bones' password in the television show...very sneaky!

I always get very confused with the many characters in Brennan series books, so I started making a list from the beginning, which made it a bit easier to know who the killer was at the end.
I love Brennan, I want to be like her when 'I grow up', and I still love the stories very much, so that's why I keep reading.
The down side is that, after 12 books, I'm finding a bit boring all the detailed descriptions of, well, EVERYTHING!!; sometimes it feels I'm reading a travel guide or a medical book instead of a novel: the complete history of the monks and the cheese they make, a thesis about teeth, etc... is as if Reichs just want to add info on everything to make the book 100 pages longer.

It was pretty good. I know that the show Bones is based on Reichs' books. And normally I like books more than the shows and movies they inspire, but for this one I find the show more entertaining. It was good but not so thrilling that I can't stop listening to it when needed. I have higher hopes for her first books.
Similar plot line set up as the last 4 books, which is disheartening as one already sees the "evil doers" by the first third of the book.
This will be a short review:
First off, I do not usually read crime/pulp mystery novels, let alone the twelfth book in a series that I have not read the first 11 of. That being said, my uncle handed me this book and told me that I would find a way to get into it if I gave it about 50 pages. Well, he was right. Although bored at first and confused about character dynamics, I was able to engage with the story due to the fact that the first 75 Pages take place in chicago, and then the next 20 or so pages reside in my home town with very accurate descriptions of my town as it comes to location and population.
That being said, the story itself is mediocre. Had I never seen the show Bones, the show is based off of this series of books, perhaps I would have been more engaged, but bits and pieces reminded me of parts of the show. That paired with an obvious unraveling of the mystery did not make me ever go "OH GOLLY GEE I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!" And that is truly what we want out of a good mystery/thriller, right?
I guessed the ending about 150 pages in once the main conflict finally took form, and spent the next 150 pages screaming "YOU IDIOT, IF I CAN FIGURE THIS OUT, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO!"
That being said, I did like the book. It is not high class literature, but it is readable and I enjoyed the bantering of the characters. I may even read a few of the other books in the series if the mood suits me. I loved the way the author described my town, I loved the way the author explained the different medical discoveries throughout the book, and I loved the way the author created flaws in her main character. I don't particularly love that character, but I love that she is not lovable all the time.
So, yea, 3 out of 5 ain't bad for pulp fiction.
