It's been 3.5 years since I first read this book. I was a bit scared rereading this; scared it would not hold up to how utterly magical it felt to read this for the first time. But the truth is that it was even better than I remembered. The writing is sublime; the characters are complex; the story is so well-interwoven. I've never read anything like this book and I will sing its praises until everyone around me has read this.

Rather slow beginning but so many very important topics which are discussed in a delicate but straight forward way. Beautifully written.

Once again, I was convinced that there is nothing better than Backman's books. A heartbreaking, intense, crushing and at the same time hopeful, heart-warming, uplifting book.

Beartown is about teenagers, their parents, life in the city revolving around hockey, social circles, friendship, courage, crimes, bullying, and the modern-day phenomenon of victim blaming. A realistic, strong, provocative story. After reading one chapter before bed, I had a difficult night sleep. But even though it's a pretty dark book, there was something in every chapter that touched me and made me tear up.

Don't let yourself be hesitant about reading this book just because of the hockey theme - I know nothing about it and have no interest in it, but I loved every minute of the book.

I really loved the message of this book, but the writing style just wasn’t for me. I found it cheesy. Normally I like when there is one line that gets repeated for effect, but here it felt a bit forced.
