the plot twist at the end got this one up at 4 stars! like damn if someone can write about the complexities of sisterhood and absolutely wrench your heart out simultaneously it’s this author! Nicki plz tell me your writing secrets because that blew me away. A lovely book all in all!

Some have criticized this book for slow pacing and info dumping, however I felt like this was an asset to the story. I was so interested in the story and all the characters and how they fit together. In saying that I am not one to read slow paced books-I usually get bored. But in this case I was hooked from the beginning. Cant wait to continue this awesome series

My Review: I wanted to love this one so much. I mean the cover was just so pretty and I love stories about sisters, magic, and magical creatures. But I have to say that this one started out pretty well with some info dumping but the author started out with this being done in a way that I wanted to learn more. But the closer I crept towards 60 pages I just found myself wanting to skim the pages because it was just dragging so bad. After that I was just kind of done. The dual POV wasn't right for this story if you ask me. I would have much rather had the story all in Veronyka's as I was really interested in her part of the story and really didn't care about the other guy who I have to say wasn't even in the description of this title. So that was kind of weird.

For me I really just wished that this book would have been faster.

Go Into This One Knowing: Dual POV, Slow Plot, InfoDumping

This was a solid first book. I haven’t read much YA in a while, but I recently read the Aurelian Cycle by Rosaría Munda and that was so good I decided to catch up on some YA series.

I’m obsessed with the idea of Phoenix’s. I feel like they’ve been underused in fantasy. A slow burn romance for sure (I mean it’s obvious they’re into each other but they’re not together yet).

Ending has me questioning who the main villain is for the rest of the series.

This was an interesting read. I liked the take on magic and how it worked in the world. The connection people have to animals and how they used their magic really could tell you a lot about them. I liked getting the story from different perspectives, though I did keep thinking poor Sev was actually in his mid-late twenties instead of being eighteen. He kind of came off as much older than he was. I think I saw the hint of a romance to happen with him and another character in Heart of Flames that I cannot wait to see about.

3.5/5 • My heart just exploded with emotions that I honestly can’t contain. What a story, what an adventure and what an emotional roller coaster. This book was amazing from start to finish, I couldn’t stop reading and even when I did, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Can’t wait to read the rest!

I am so mad I waited so long to read this book!! What an absolutely amazing story of a country at war and magical phoenixes who bond with their riders! I refuse to say more because you just need to read it and should go in blind. It was such a treat!
