Much like Illuminae, Gemina took a while to get into. I think it is due to the different format this book takes, and while I was invested in the story a lot sooner, getting used to the format took much longer than Illuminae.
I loved the characters in this story. Hanna and Nik and Ella are all incredible and I would literally die for each and every one of them. The plot was good, and I love a good hostage situation where everyone is confined to one space.
What I didn’t like was that the group that all had codenames were randomly referred to by their real names as well. It was very confusing and I often had to go back to try and figure out who was who and who was alive etc. Just stick to one name, especially when you have such a large group of brand new characters.
The wormhole, alternate universe thing was awesome and I would love to find out more about that. When Hanna talks to Kady for the first time I died. I can’t wait to see them properly interact. They are going to be badass. They are going to be unstoppable.

These are so fun and easy to read. Sci fi isnt my usual speed but these are so accessible and universal and just so addictive and exciting ahhhhhhhh

Just like the first book from this series, the story line was absolutely genius and there is no doubt in my mind that I'll be picking up the third book once it comes out!
Wow wow wow. This was AMAZING, even better than the first one. And the last part was mind-blowing, holy shirtballs.
3.5/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: I wasn't a huge fan of the first book in this series, but I liked the format and the way that the story was told so I wanted to give the sequel a try. I'm glad that I decided to go ahead and read this one, but I ended up really enjoying it quite a bit more than I expected to. I felt like there was more action and it was more intense.
CHARACTERS: I enjoyed the characters in this book more than the characters in the first book. I really liked Hanna. She was such a cool character. She's smart, tough and can take care of herself, which she proves over and over.
COVER: The cover is really nice. I like the shades of blue.
**I received an ARC of this book from Amazon Vine/The publisher for my honest review. All opinions are my own and have not been influenced in any way.**

A fantastic sequel! Though the stakes didn't feel quite as high or as dramatic as in the first book, I loved all of the characters (especially the bits with characters from Illuminae!) Can't wait for the next one.

This book was aptly named. Just sayin'.
Generally, I dislike series where the second book is narrated by a different character than the first. Even if the two come together, something about it bothers me. But I suppose, since The Illuminae Files aren't really narrated by anyone, it didn't make as much of a difference in this book.
Things you should know: these books are told in a series of various computer documents—IM messages (essentially), computer data, radio transmission transcripts, security camera transcripts—as the premise is that each document is part of a court case against BiTech Industries. While Gemina doesn't star the same characters that Illuminae does, going to the Heimdall space station rather than staying on the Hypatia was really a necessity from a plot point of view, something I can't go into without spoiling Illuminae.
The characters were lovely: the fantastically military-minded perfect-life rich girl (Hanna), the gang-member drug-selling I've-done-time but heart-of-gold boy (Nik), the snarky computer-genius also-completely-awesome girl who keeps everything from falling apart multiple times (Ella). While the three of them are certainly not a squad at the beginning of the book, craziness goes down. All of them are thrown together, forced into a somewhat-unlikely truce. Hanna's military genius combined with Ella's computer genius is really what gets the job done, but Nik becomes an unlikely hero in his own right (hehehe no spoilers).
Obviously I love the format, but it did take away from certain elements. A few of the big reveals could have been better done, primarily the ones that deal with character rather than plot development. But for the most part I was saying *surprised intake of breath* "oh crap that is not good" (my family can attest). I didn't enjoy having AIDAN narrate some of the video transcripts; I didn't see the need, though perhaps it will become obvious in the next book (which I am impatiently awaiting).
Basically, the book was super cool and I was on the edge of my seat all the time. Some of the characters were a little cliché at times, but I'll forgive them that for the originality of the format and plot.
