Portrait of a Body is a short, introspective autobiographical graphic novel. In looping cursive script and colourful pencil drawings, Delporte muses on her sexuality and how it relates to her past trauma. Realising later in life that she is a lesbian had a huge effect on Delporte, she ponders if she ever liked men, how sexual abuse has affected her sex life and how others perceive her sexually. Delporte references films, writers and musicians but also writes about deeply personal and niche experiences. Portrait of a Body is somehow aloof and intimate at the same time. The tone grows on the reader and the story builds strength as it goes, toward the end each sentence falls with deep truth and clarity.

"What didn't kill me didn't make me stronger. Time hasn't healed all wounds. And yet here I am, still very much alive."
A really beautiful and honest story about realizing sexuality and dealing with trauma. Beautifully written and illustrated.
