This book is hit or miss as far as storytelling advice. The first 1/2 or so is great advice on figuring out why things matter, setting up themes, and creating characters who drive the story. The "blueprint" is where it lost me. The examples weren't well worded and so many rules don't apply to a large number of successful novels. I wouldn't use it as a blueprint at all but that's me. I think this is a book with good advice that you have to pick and choose from to decide what's going to push your novel forward in the best way.
There is a lot of logic and purpose, particularly in the first half of the book about writing character driven stories. It is all a suggestion, you know, and Cron has a lot of opinions among the neuroscience pieces (which are few). If you keep that in mind while going in, you might find things you can use.

Whilst this falls into the inescapable trap that all books about writing do, that their method is the only one that works and is a formula that works for whatever you intend to write, it is a really good deep dive into how to build your novel around engaging character and powerful character arcs (my favourite type of writing tbh).
Best craft book on writing I've read so far.
I've been going through it, working on the exercises, trying to get a solid foundation for the book I'm planning to write for NaNoWriMo this year. I am even trying to use Scrivener because I'd found a template which incorporates the Scene Cards the author introduces in this book.
We'll see if this book helps me push my writing over the edge to publishable. :)
