Despite how I rolled my eyes until they ached when we are introduced to the love interest--
Spoiler Harry loves jazz music, and this sultry stranger's nickname is...wait for it...Jazz!
I still find this series compelling and readable. In this volume, Harry tackles the case that has shaped his entire life--his mother's unsolved murder.
We are treated to lots of aggro going off on Internal Affairs, illicit smoking, alcoholism, and a satisfyingly complicated mystery. It's everything you expect from this series.

Totally gripping page-turner. I loved the language, the harshness, the loneliness of the story. I came by it not thinking much, looking for something in a used book store that I could read during a road trip and silent hours with not much commitment. It's right up my alley.

Not the best of the series, so far, but enjoyable. I liked the resolution of the murder of his mother, and hope that we are done with that byline.
