I’m kind of surprised that this book was written in 2008. I really would have thought it was older. I could have given this book better star rating for the story but the the language around First Nations or aboriginal people is outdated and there is a lot of perpetuation of stereotypes. I think this book (and possibly this series) needs to be re-edited under the guidance of sensitivity readers.

I kept finding this book recommended to me.. but it just seems so slow. It starts with so much insinuation of a shadow-government type of deal, but it took so long to get into an actual plot, I DNF’d for now :( maybe I just didn’t give it enough of a chance but I was bored.

This was a good example of fantasy, nicely paced, intriguing characters, and a solid plot. This book pulled me along with it. My only quibble was the ending paragraph which didn't quite feel like an ending. Would read more in this series.

Entertaining fantasy - perfect for a rainy day.

Finally finished!!

It has taken me a while to get through this story but I'm glad I did. There is a lot going on but I liked the story line and relationship between Anna and Charles. Great to see so much of Bran and Ansil as well after the glimpses of them in Mercy's story line. Can't wait to read more.

interesting book and fun to read. Nice take on weres. I am assuming it would be more fun to understand if I had read the rest of the Mercy books.

I could kick myself now for how long it took me to finally read this book!

I am glad I chose to read this. I loved the Mercy Thompson series and was hoping this would be that good. It did not let me down. I loved learning more about Bran and Charles. I loves Anna also. I feel for what she endured under Leo's leadership and was glad to see her work through things for the name of love. I am looking forward to the next book and hopefully more to come.
