Read in december 2016:
Love, love, loved it! I'm a sucker for the story of Asil. I love the mystery that is Bran. And I simply adore the love-story of Charles en Anna.

In August, a friend gave me two of the Alpha and Omega books in paperback, and I proceeded to read them and then go through the rest via my Kindle in the space of about a week. Obviously, I didn't take the time to write individual reviews, as I was much too busy going through them as quickly as I could because I enjoyed them so much. Thus I am writing a single generic review for all of them noting what I like about the series. :)

Werewolves again? Oh wait...these aren't your typical werewolves, they feel pain during the shift, can only be made, and more. And sadly, some of them are complete assholes, as evinced by how the Omega wolf Anna was turned and then kept in near servitude for the first few years of her wolfhood. Charles, a much older wolf from the highest pack in America, saves her from the situation and then manages to fall in love with her and she with him. As Anna learns how to be an Omega wolf amongst some of the highest ranking wolves in the world, she learns more about herself and what she can accomplish.

Overall, these are great books and I highly recommend you give them a try if you like paranormal stories, some romance (but not romance-centered, which was a refreshing change to be honest), and great settings across America. These are an awesome companion to the Mercy Thompson series, and definitely fill in more about the werewolf side of society that made me enjoy the other series even more.

Hmmmm. Let's talk a minute. I have complaints about this book and I bout to be salty. This book is listed as #1 however comma it starts out as a continuation of either .5 in the series or the last book, idk didn't care enough to find out. Our heroine is an abuse victim and her behavior is constantly scared and timid, as I would understand if you went through that kind of trauma, BUT then she just sleeps with him out of nowhere after being afraid to even talk to him! Confusion. Honestly i just DNF'ed after that because I knew it was just going to get worse from there. Also 3rd person is not my jam. Respect to all the people who love this book and series but no.

I thought this would be more like the Mercy Thompson series. But it is very different despite featuring some of the same characters.
I enjoyed the new concepts introduced to the pack magic lore and finding out more about Charles and Bran!
Love tames the misunderstood-hardass is not my favorite trope but Briggs does a good job portraying it without being saccharin or inspiring me to roll my eyes or making a copy of Mercy. I'll keep reading the series.

This was really hard to get through but I did it. It wasn’t necessarily a terrible read but it wasn’t a great read either, it was in between for me. I still have a slight spark of hope that the second book will pick up and the characters will become interesting but it’s such a small spark..

The thing I didn’t enjoy about this was how utterly boring the plot was. It was basic. Everything was predictable. Idk if it is cause I got to book 7 of the Mercy Thompson series so I have a understanding of the whole setting this series takes place in but sheesh. The only time it stopped being a bit predictable was during the rouge wolf hunt. But then it went right back to me being able to know what comes next.

Now as for the characters, I thought Anna was- yanno I thought she would be more. I get that this is the first book and maybe it gets better in the next but she’s so bland! She’s so dry. I still like Charles, idk why but he’s just attractive to me even though he’s dull too. I was glad to know more about Bran and his bitchy mate Leah but once it started diving into his POV and we got a hint of his feelings my interest in him dimmed. He was always a character that was so mysterious, I never wanted to know more about him. I like that air of mystery. It makes it fun and enthralling but once getting an air of how his brain works, the enjoyment I got out of his character died. I have nothing to say about the villain in this story. She was sooooooo damn lame.

The romance was barely there imo. It’s been way too fast for them. I thought I would’ve liked the instant love at first when reading the novella, but I was wrong lol. I’m gonna use this word again- their romance is boring.I want to like them together but there’s no chemistry yet. She went and said the big “I love you.” It doesn’t feel right or ready.

Anyway, after reading this I might pick up the second because like I said, that spark of hope is still there but mannn.. who am I kidding..I just think I have to force myself to come to the realization that Patrica Briggs books just might not be for me..... bummer. ☹️☹️

Enjoyed the second in this series a tad more than this first book, although this was still a satisfying read.

It’s established upfront (so no spoiler here) that the mc has been abused. Briggs doesn’t go for detail (which is a-ok, no excessive gore). But, a main female character that is not certain and strong is not as much fun to read as one who is. I suspect that bothered me, so that parts of the back and forth narration felt clumsy at first. But, it was pleasurable enough, I decided to read the second book and I’m happy I've continued with this.

It was okay. I didn't really feel as invested in either of the main characters like I did with Mercy, Brigg's other protagonists from the same world. I did like learning more about Charles and Bran in general, but it felt anti-climatic even though there were all the ingredients for something great.

I think I must have read this too fast the first time to really appreciate it. Upon a second read, I got into more and liked it enough to warrant an additional star.
