Cry Wolf

A great view of the Marrok and Charles from the Montana clan. Loved the introduction of the "Omega wolf" aspect to the werewolf world and the focus on the crazed witch. Reading was slower for the first 1/3rd of the book but really picked up and took off after Anna gets to Montana.

I'm really glad I read the Alpha and Omega "companion novel" first, aka the actual beginning of this book, before picking this up. I would have been crazy confused. That said, oh boy is Patricia Briggs addictive. What a fun story!

This would have been so confusing if I hadn’t read Alpha & Omega first and would have been a stronger story over all if they had been combined into one book. I’m interested to see where this story goes, because Anna and Charles’ relationship has a lot of potential but their lack of communication throughout this book was extremely frustrating.

Really enjoy Briggs writing style, makes for a fascinating book. Definitely must read short prequel first.

3.5 stars.

Definitely recommend reading the Alpha & Omega novella first, which I DID do and I’m so thankful because even WITH reading that, I was thrown into a world of me not knowing shit but it was expected of me. I guess reading the Mercy Thompson series first MIGHT fix that, as there’s characters in this, that are in that, and that series started first? But honestly, I felt like I was meant to know who half these people are.

I don’t really think this book was any good until past the halfway mark. Mainly because it’s showing all the characters and explaining all that crap. I just felt like I wasn’t told stuff properly or something. Like when you read a spin off and it’s assumed you’ve already met people so they give a glossed version and if you only started there then everyone seems two dimensional and boring?

It also had more of a PNR feel than UF, and I went into this thinking I wouldn’t like it all that much as I don’t tend to love UF, and then I was kinda disappointed I guess because the romance part was everywhere and nowhere at the same time and all the action at the end was much more interesting than these two wondering why the mating bond isn’t happening straight away.

I felt her trauma wasn’t REALLY talked about except in passing here. I felt he would still feel rage over what happened to her and the conditions she was in. I just felt it lacked some of that dramatic animal emotion because everyone wanted to not blow up ever.

Overall I do think the writing was good, I am tempted to read another in this series, and now I’m not so scared to try Mercy’s series either. Whether I read all of these books I don’t know as I don’t tend to read books with the same couples etc but we shall see.

I was reading a total of 3 books at once and then came across this one. I must say that it made me put my other choices on hold and finish this one first.

Briggs has a gift that is paralleled by very few. She makes her readers love her characters by allowing that though they are amazing people they are still people.

Good start to a series, but you 100% have to read the novella alpha and omega to understand and appreciate this story.

Another wow!

I have really fallen in love with the world and universe that Patricia has created! Like the books with Mercy Thompson, this one was on par and just as fantastic! The new and familiar characters were great! As was the interactions, dialogue, and plot! Overall, I really hate enjoyed this story and this series!
