This was my first read by Briggs and my first foray into the Mercy Thompson world and while I enjoyed it for the most part, I think I'm just a little "whelmed" by it—not over or under, it just was. This might be entirely my fault though for diving straight into this book on a clueless whim thinking I could pick it up and easily slide into this well-established world I knew nothing about.
need to read the novella first, otherwise totally lost.

It starts were the novella ends and does a decent job a giving character histories that you only hear mention of in the Mercy Thompson. The further info on Bran and other werewolves as old as him helps build the world a bit. Mercy is mentioned but not dwelled on. Over all a great spinoff.
