STOP: Before you read this book, be sure to read the companion novella prequel, "Alpha & Omega". I don't know why this is not actually part of the first book.
Having said that...I have really enjoyed the start to this spin-off series, just as much as the Mercedes Thompson series.

Fun to read, if a little uneven in places because I couldn't always or immediately tell who was the narrator of particular sections. Will be reading the rest of the series (and looking forward to it)!
I mean, it was fine. Nothing too exciting though. I loved that our male protagonist Charles is Native American, I feel like a rarely find Native characters in books. I liked both Anna and Charles as our protagonists. I wish they would have had more of a slow burn. I know, their wolfs decided they're mates but maybe they could've just been attracted to each other for a while and then fallen in love instead of declaring the other the love of their life 2 weeks after meeting for the first time. I'm not really sure about the plot. It kinda felt like nothing happened? Or rather the stakes were kinda low?
definitely missing the kick-assery of the mercy thompson series. i love my werewolves, but this was disappointing.
I always love Patricia Briggs stories. This was a wonderful spin off of our favorite series. We get to know these characters more as the story progresses and I find that they are broken and wonderful.

A different perspective on some of the same characters
This series has a different mood than Mercy's series. Slightly more serious or somber, but still a gripping plot. The characters are definitely strong enough to carry a series.

I read it before and it just didn't take. Clearly I'm in a different mood now, because I really enjoyed it, especially once Anna got more confident.
I swear some of the sentences in this did not make sense, but I was looking for a werewolf romance paranormal adventure and definitely got what I wanted. Craving satisfied. Four stars.
I'm a Patricia Briggs junkie so when an off-series of the Mercy Thompson books showed up I was instantly hooked! I love watching Anna come into her own. She was the lowest of the pack, quiet, keeping her head down kind of gal but then Charles comes into her life. A very powerful werewolf who will change her life and the way others see her.
