I was really excited to read this.. I thought the blurb was so good and intriguing but once you start to read it, to me it felt like another YA book about a girl liking a bad boy and it was so predictable and dumb. UNTIL the towards to the ending and the plot twists were revealed but for me that was WAY too late hence the 3 stars.

This book was AWESOME ant first I was like it looks cringy but then i was screw it! And stayed up all night reading! I was a sleep deprived zombie the next day but did not CARE! I want to give the Author a Hug, a high-five then ask ( causally if my name can be featured in one of her books )

finished book so fast. really good and excited for book 2

i'm a sucker for drama even tho it was a tiny bit too much, but overall it is a nice read, aND I LOVE LUCA

I love the realness in this book and how strong the emotions come across from the page.

Ah...this book...

I'm shook.

The characters, the banter, the action, the plot...I literally gasped out loud during the second half of this book. There were a lot of mini twists I didn't see coming! The romance I wasn't a fan off. But then I started noticing the direction it was going in and I found myself rooting for Sophie and Luca :D

The banter was so perfect for the context and I couldn't read fast enough! Of course it was cheesy and clichéd, but I enjoyed every moment of it.

I really enjoyed where the mafia plot progressed to. It was SO ENTERTAINING! I can't wait to dive into the next book in this trilogy and see where it goes hehe I'M EXCITED!!

Trigger warnings: attempted rape, abuse, violence

“This life is so complex that we rarely get to be the people we are truly meant to be. Instead, we wear masks and put up walls to keep from dealing with the fear of rejection, the feeling of regret, the very idea that someone may not love us for who we are deep in our core, that they might not understand the things that drive us.”

My very first problem with Vendetta was the blurb that makes the novel look over-dramatic and it misleads you into thinking Vendetta is something that is not. Based on it I expected a romantic drama filled novel with gang wars every direction. Thankfully, Vendetta was rather about Sophie's inner fights and how she dealt with discovering the truth, than about any of the things above.

Sophie's life isn't as easy as you might think. After her father's imprisonment she lost all her friends besides Millie, her very best friend in the world. Instead of whining about her problems, Sophie's funny, snarky and smart. Don't get me wrong, she's not perfect, she makes her fair share of stupid decisions but that is what makes her a 100% realistic teenage girl. She knows she shouldn't get herself engaged in Nic's life but she can't help herself. Her inner struggle to stay true to herself was the very best thing in this novel.

“I knew I couldn’t trust my illogical heart, and that meant I had to do everything in my power to stay away from him so I wouldn’t have to.”

Thanks to how relatable the characters were, Vendetta felt like an emotional roller coaster. Through Sophie I experienced a wide range of feelings. Her conflicted feelings made me eager to turn the pages and see how her opinion will turn out in the end. All the characters were somewhat interesting and relatable, Sophie's mom and uncle were the only exceptions. These two were plain and one-dimensional, they had no real emotional role which was a huge disappointment.

Five crazy hot boys who are actually brothers, what's not to like? Plenty of things, as it turned out. My problems started when I found the chemistry between Nic and Sophie particularly non-existent. But, I thought, at least Nic is not your usual asshole. And then came Luca who is everything a cliché bad boy should be. By the end, sadly I had to realise that the next novel will definitely feature a love triangle.

description

I despise love triangles and the thing that the Nic-Sophie-Luca love triangle has a very Vampire Diaries-ish feeling doesn't help the case.

Overall, Vendetta is an enjoyable novel that will make you wonder about which one is the right path. Hopefully, the next book will be just as good as this one was. :)

The story idea: 4/5
The realization of the story: 3/5
The characters: 4/5
The cover: 3/5
Enjoy factor: 4/5
Final rating: 4/5

I had so many expectations from this book. A young girl, caught up in the world of a mafia family, forbidden to love the one guy she is falling for. First of all, the mafia game was weak, but what else can we expect from a young adult novel? The book featured the dullest mafia family. How cheesy could it have been? "they fight the bad guys" Ugh.
The story starts out well. It was very capturing. The author presented many questions that the reader NEEDS to be answered. However, somewhere after some of the puzzle pieces start fitting, the story loses me. Maybe it was the cheesy dialogues by the love interest or the obvious intention of the author introducing love interest #2. It honestly could have been that the story didn't seem as believable and exciting anymore either. (Once again the weak mafia game)

My biggest issue with the story was that it had too many mature issues being addressed by a teenager. Seemed like the author couldn't decide who her audience should be. It was like watching a 16 yr old act like an adult (with real-life problems) after they get their driving license. *Insert Eye-Roll*

Vendetta is a good start for a YA Contemporary Romance/Suspense trilogy. I enjoyed the first ten chapters and the story has an edge but reaching halfway this book, it went a bit downhill. This is a Mafia themed book, I just want to give you a heads up there's mild violence. If you're uncomfortable with it, this book might not be for you.

Sophie Gracewell's father has been convicted due to a murder case, she and her family are outcasts or Cedar Hill's gossip topic. When the abandoned mansion in their town was occupied by these five good looking brothers and she's attracted to the youngest brother, Nic Falcone. She's been warned not to associate with these men for they're considered dangerous. Family secrets resurface, the Falcone family is in Cedar Hill for a serious business and it's complicated for Sophie and Nic to be together.

I like the direction of the story but it lacks the thrill. I'm craving for it especially towards the end. Sadly, it turned out dull and predictable. I'm not a huge fan of Sophie. She's stubborn, naive and annoying. She doesn't have any self preservation which really got in my nerves. No wonder she's prone to danger. Nic is a great hero. He may be part of the Mafia family but he's a good and lovely guy. However, he and Sophie have an average chemistry. It was alright, kind of lackluster but I'm hoping there will be an improvement on the next book. Lastly, Luca Falcone is by far my favorite. He's a complex character and can be intimidating at times but he has a good judgment. He'll do the rightful thing no matter what and I love him.

Most likely I'll be reading the sequel and crossing my fingers it will be better. I'm excited to see what happens next.

Let me just inform you that I skimmed through a lot of pages in this book. Because 1.) it was boring as heck 2.) I honestly don't feel or see any chemistry between Sophie and Nic and lastly, 3.) Nic is too dull as a main love interest.

Don't get me wrong, there were some parts that I thoroughly enjoyed. There's Luca and his icy aura (I swear there's more in him that wasn't revealed in this book), Millie and Sophie's friendship and Millie's sass.

I might read the sequel because I heard that Luca has more parts in there. XD I need more Luca in my life!
