⭐⭐⭐💫

I’ve seen quite a few early reviews that said the twist was really surprising, which intrigued me, because I often can identify it due to how many horror movies I consumed at arguably too young an age. I called what the twist would be about half way through, and I didn't find it particularly surprising or new for the genre.

That said, I think this book tells an important story of what happens when children don’t have active adults in their lives. For the main character Jodi, it means she is keeping a secret from most of the people in her life about her father’s behavior and how that impacts her. For Emily, the classmate who died by suicide before the start of the book, it was how she needed more guidance in several aspects of her life. Had those adults been there, I think their stories would've been different, and the value they put on themselves, their time, and their needs would be more in their favor.

I like the combination of supernatural and real world aspects. This book isn’t entirely one thing, which I think makes it a fun read for most thriller fans. If you’re someone that enjoys stories rooted in ghosts, that storyline is there, and if you’re someone who likes more realistic situations and double crosses, that’s also there. Despite including all these elements, they work well in tandem, whereas in other books it may become too busy or cluttered.

If you like thrillers and enjoyed Pretty Little Liars, it’s worth the read. There is so much about this book that reminded me of what I liked about reading Pretty Little Liars in a good way, and I enjoyed that.

The YA thrillers lately are on fire 🔥

This was my first Julie Soto book and I know she’s known and loved for her romances but The Thrashers was a good time.

Elite friend group, The Thrashers, are entering their senior year of high school during an ongoing investigation into their classmates’ death. The Thrashers are rich teens that love being the center of attention which has always left Jodi Dillon feeling a little in the outskirts but the Zack Thrasher has been her best friend since they were young and she’d do anything to keep their friendship.

As Emily’s journal is discovered in the investigation and the circumstances around her death begin to unfold The Thrashers start getting some unwanted attention and their loyalty to one another is put to the test.

This was a fast paced non stop thriller that kept me hooked with all of the teenage drama that unfolded. I had such mixed emotions with most of the characters but I couldn’t look away and was dying to know what was around each corner. There was some paranormal elements to the story that I wasn’t expecting and don’t typically enjoy but it tied into the story really well. That epilogue though… I need more to this story immediately!

There are some dark themes on page in this one so check your warnings.

Thank you so much to St Martin’s Press and  Wednesday books for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I prefer Soto’s romance novels but I love when an author branches out and I don’t regret reading this one.

That was a fun romp into a YA mystery with a touch of supernatural! It was worth the sleep I ignored lol!
Finished it in less than 24 hours and the shocks kept me flipping pages at 1 am.
No regrets!

Ok, this book was so bingeable! Julie Soto has described The Thrashers as her babies, but she may have to fight me on that—because I think they’re my babies! I honestly love them all so, so much, and they’re such real and relatable characters.

This one brought me right back to high school, and all the feels were so relatable! That prom scene especially hit me hard and brought back flashbacks of my own senior prom and the drama of the entire day!

I don’t want to reveal too much of the plot in my review because I went into this one totally blind based on people saying they were loving it, and I had so much fun with my reading experience doing that! But this one was twisty, with elements of the paranormal, witchiness, romance, and drama—all the things I love in a book! And I instantly fell so hard for Julian. Like—a dark, broody man named Julian? Absolutely. Sign me up every damn time.

The end of this one annoyed me at first because I thought it was going to leave a lot of things unanswered… but then we got an absolutely jaw-dropping epilogue that completely reversed my feelings and had me totally obsessed with this whole book—and wanting to go back and reread it instantly!

Huge thank you to Wednesday Books for my advanced copy of this book!
