Jodi Dillon has been best friends with Zack Thrasher since they were kids. He’s her best friend, though he is everything Jodi’s not - confident, rich, popular. As they’ve grown up Jodi has stayed friends with Zack, and has remained part of his group as others come and go. A core group of friends - with Zack at its heart - and each of them has their own reasons for hanging around.
Unfortunately, someone they were once close to - Emily Mills - killed herself on prom night, and now the police are coming after the group as they believe they were responsible for Emily’s decision.
Initially we watch Jodi and her friends as they interact, learning about their past and the events that they are now dealing with.  Jodi has never truly felt as if she belongs in the group, and as their behaviour is increasingly put under the spotlight she starts to question what they have done.
As Jodi is on the periphery of the group it’s easy for us to start to see the cracks. Following the twists and revelations meant what could have been a fairly standard book about a toxic friendship group became something a little more. Though there’s hints of supernatural occurrences which are later explained, the ending of the book definitely offered an interesting slant on some of the events within.

If you've ever felt like the only friend in a friend group that gets left out of things all the time this one will definitely strike a very heavy chord with you. The emotions that Jodi goes through of wondering how much her friends really care about her is something any girl who went through teenage years in a public high school will understand. I don't usually read thrillers so YA is just the right level of tension for a wimp like me! There were some small details throughout that kept me guessing on elements of this story through the very end. A quick, fun read - I hope she does more!
fast-paced

This was a fun read & even ended on a “WTF” moment, and  that’s always fun! YA thrillers always manage to keep me engaged and wanting to know more from the start.

I hope Julie Soto continues to write in this genre because I have a feeling I’m going to eat them up every time!!
