Sequel to All Quiet on the Western Front. Relatively unknown which is understandable as it doesn't quite measure up to that high bar but still worth reading. It is an interesting and engaging view of the experiences of veterans (should I say, survivors?) returning in defeat from war. The poor reception awaiting such veterans was, I thought, an invention of the Vietnam War era - influenced as I was by my childhood experience and all the popular mythology that Vietnam was unique as it was the first televised war. Germany after World War I seems pretty similar after reading this book, so alas I'm thinking it is more universal.
