Really weirdly fatphobic with relatively sloppy writing that lacked a lot of depth. Read this as it was the source material for the Stan adaptation but I find that the show was much more enjoyable than this hard to digest book.

One of the most haunting and visceral reading experiences I have ever had. I am left physically shaken by the ending. I am privileged as a gay man to have never experienced direct or violent homophobia, so to be confronted with it so realistically in this story was rattling.
And that is where this book’s power lies.
It lies in maintaining hope despite telling some of truly the darkest tales I have ever heard. There is power in the reality of these characters, and the friendships they form.
More than anything, I am coming away from this book believing there is power in queer solidarity and pride.
