The story of an exhausted and desperate African-American family in the post WWII era who have everything against them but refuse to give up on their hopes and dreams.

...when you starts measuring somebody, measure him right, child, measure him right. Make sure you done taken into account what hills and valleys he come through before he got to wherever he is.

I found it a surprisingly great book. I usually don't like reading plays, nor do I usually enjoy reading american literature, but this was an exception. I found I really loved reading it and especially the ending. I think this is as important as is suggested. Lots of great lines and was surprisingly funny yet had it's strongly powerfully written scenes that make you feel.
