This book was so so good! One of my favorites right behind Beach Read. Emily Henry as always describes feelings and emotions in the most elegant way. She also did an amazing job of depicting what it’s like to have/had been in a narcissist relationship with a parent. I related to the characters in this book the most out of all the characters in her books

I love Daphne and Miles, as well as Ashleigh, Harvey, Daphne's mom, and the list goes on. I was invested and cried several times. I'm forever a sucker for an unexpected pairing and a messy fake dating situation. There's nothing WRONG here...but this didn't reach Beach Read levels for me. And maybe it's not fair to compare an author's works, but my brain is going to regardless. Do I still plan to read her other books? Absolutely. Will I do my best to keep an open mind and not cling to the perfection that was Beach Read, especially paired with the time and place in which I read it? Yes, I sure will. 🙃

Said in my best Mean Girls voice: "Stop trying to make chortle and guffaw happen." As a reader, I find Emily Henry's gross overuse of these words to be unbelievably distracting and quite annoying. Maybe she was trying (too hard) to be funny, quirky, or charming and completely missed the mark?

Yet again, narrator Julia Whelan was the saving grace. She single-handedly carried me through another Emily Henry story. 

If Emily Henry's characters were working with
a therapist, then she'd be out of a job. So much projection and refusal to communicate like healthy adults. And what is with all the ghosting?!


Who feels their
organs with that frequency? Or... ever? First Daphne feels her organs are charring and overbaking, then she feels them icing over.
Seriously, what does that even mean?

This is an utterly unbelievable story about two people whose partners hook up with each other so they try to fake do the same to make them jealous but end up spending so much time together that the question isn't whether they will get together but when.

I also didn't like all the baggage they brought with them - I don't want an entire book to act as therapy for two characters who have family issues and/or suddenly discover they have put their own life on hold for someone else.

All in all, not Emily Henry's best book. I've finished this three days ago and I have already forgotten most of the plot. What's left is an overwhelming sense of "please both go find a good therapist!"
