I’m intrigued by the magic system so going to read the next one, but that is despite the writing style not because of it. Typos, bad grammar, formatting errors and generally poor writing absolutely PLAGUE this book. A shame because it’s all very fixable. The insta-love is also very dull, and there is zero character development in this book - but I still have hope for the next one…

3.25 stars. I found the plot interesting. Kiarra being helped captive and her going through months of torture to get ingredients to reverse a spell was pretty interesting and I did love how her love interests were written. The last couple of chapters had plot twists but were just kind of confusing. It was like it was dropped with just no context. It also took me 10 days to read and maybe because it was taking me a bit longer than normal to read, I wasn’t fully invested in it enough to give it higher rating. I do wish it was dual pov. Only getting one chapter from one of the guys pov’s at the end was a little disappointing. Overall, it was a good book and I’m willing to give the series a second chance with the second book.

Reverse harem with found family. Wanted to try something new and although the writing took a while to get into and was a little predictable to start there were some unexpected twists at the end that left me wanting more.

This is the first book of the reverse harem paranormal romance trilogy, Blood & Ruin. Tropes include a strong FMC, reverse harem, supernatural beings, fated mates, touch her and die and found family. See content warnings for spice and violence.

The Lovely: I loved the premise of the story and ultimately how it played out. The FMc has her own goals and plans that don’t involve someone else rescuing her. She’s tenacious but also protective of those she cares about. I felt like there was enough different about each of the five alphas to keep them straight and I was able to tell who was who pretty easily.

The Mundane: I would have liked to have seen more world building in terms of the magic system and types of supernatural beings (and their structure).

Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Spicy flames

Recommendation: This series is something I’ve had on my TBR for a while and I planned to read it in the next couple months. However, it became a mood read for me this month as I needed something easy but delicious after a long long string of ARCs (credit to Teresa for the term ARCmageddon). I’m glad I did grab this as so far it’s hit the spot. I lovereverse harem to begin with and this first book was filled with glorious angst. I’ve already started book 2 because I just couldn’t wait.
