I think this book had a lot of potential though unfortunately it fell flat.
I enjoyed many parts of this story, especially at the start where Julia's past and present backstory were explored.
However it's comparison to the original 1984 is inevitable, and unlike the original it lacks any sort of ideological lens which makes dystopias effective. The horrors of totalitarian rule which are so prominent in 1984 are missing here, leaving the book feel almost purpose-less and strange.

It’s been a while since I read 1984, so I didn’t find myself comparing too much to the original. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this, although I’m still not too sure what to make of the ending…Surely, it was all too good (/weird & coincidental) to be true?!

Cool twists on the original plot and liked the human connections and stuff. Julia's childhood was really interesting too. Didn't really love the ending though
