I really wanted to enjoy this book, but the shift to epistolary was really jarring for me. The actual story itself continues to be amazing and I understand why it was formatted the way it was, but it was far more of a chore for me to read than the previous two novellas.

(from my reading log)
* Third novella of the Tensorate series. Forcusing on a new character, a Tensor whose investigation is brushed away and rushed, to her chagrin, and further investigation makes her a rebel
* What she uncovers is a monster that destroys the research facility that created it, but the real monsters are the ones that created it. And Rider is looking for their twin.
* Akeha's pronouns are now gender-neutral in this book. Something that's acknowledged but not explained
* Speaking of, the book doesn't answer what Akeha was doing at the research facility. It's assumed they swooped in last minute, but it's not overtly stated.
* Took a while to read this because I read a fanfic at the same time. But also it doesn't seem as well-constructed as its predecessors. Part of that might be because this is from a new character's perspective, or it could be because this is a sophomore entry in a series. Either way, this was still a good book.
* Author acknowledgements mention the story getting a rewrite when a previous version was pretty far in the publishing process. I wonder what that previous draft was like.
* Finished 18 September 2020
