I’d seen the movie a few years ago so I remembered a little bit about the twist but it was still so good. Lehane set it up so well and the writing style felt really immersive.

The scene where Teddy/Andrew remembers his wife murdering his children was so heartbreaking.

I really enjoyed this book!

Couldn’t get past the racist language. I get that this is an older book; it just wasn’t something I felt was worth tolerating for a story I already knew the end of (I’ve seen the movie)

The dialogue is well written and the characters are fleshed out well.  The story didn’t quite follow through what it was setting up, in my opinion.

There were times where it was a page turner & I couldn’t stop reading! Other times it seemed to drag on a little, I think this could be due to the time period it is written in. Ultimately a good read, although not sure I’m satisfied with the ending.
