I'm going to preface this with saying that I'm all caught up on the ongoing webtoon series so I knew exactly what I was going to get in this volume to an extent as I wasn't sure where this collected volume was to end, which was covering episodes 26-47.

I love this deconstruction and modern take on the Greek mythos of the different characters. Smythe from the start, has always had her own spin on the characters and it's noticeable the further along the story goes while she maintains a good portion of what we may already know while not exclusively relying on the reader to have that knowledge. She's done a great job, in my opinion, of keeping her voice and weaving in enough of what has been written and published by others to get her story going.

But I'm a real fan of the art style - from color choices to character design, Smythe had me from episode one so it's a real treat being able to own physical copies of the comic that I've spent hours reading on my phone. The panels are beautiful to look at, and the larger on screen panels are anywhere from a half-page to full pages in the printed book so seeing all the details up close is just as fun as laughing at the facial expressions that Smythe creates among them all ❤

Can't wait for my volume three copy!!

I have not read the paper copy of this story, so I do not know where Volume Two ends. Anyways, I DID just re-read most of the story & read the rest that hadn’t come out when I was originally reading it. Therefore, I’ve read it in its entirety as to what is out on Webtoon as of 8/3/22, which is Ep. 206 (with using one fastpass to complete Season 2), and I alum in complete and utter awe with Rachel Smythe as I always have been. This story has made me cackle, swoon, fume, and sob too many times to count within the past 24 hours of reading the entire thing. The way that the characters are developed is SO amazing, especially for what originally started out as a little Webtoon. The characters you love, you love wholeheartedly, and those you hate, it’s the same, but there are backstories and psychological reasons and details and so many amazing things that Rachel has done in order to make us see these characters and understand them more. My heart breaks for so many reasons because of this story, and Persephone is so extremely strong. Everything in this story is so well-balanced and well-done, between the romance and the heartache/slow burn and the complications of it all, all the trauma and having to work to move on after that, mental health problems and toxic relationships and therapy and healing to  looking at all of Hades’ dogs and just going ‘aww’. I absolutely adore the relationship between Kore & Hades and the author and how she’s conveyed such a magnificent, touching, heartbreakingly beautiful story.

In some ways, I think I prefer the vertical format of the webtoons app to this hardbound edition. The phone call between Hades and Persephone, as well as the moment he rescues her from Tower 4 were more coherent to read when I could dedicate my attention to one panel at a time.

However.

I love this comic so much, and I’m thrilled to add a second volume to my bookshelf. Colorful and vibrant, excellent pace and storytelling. Can’t wait to get my hands on Volume 3!

5 ⭐ for how messy this is getting!! I love it.

I think this is officially the only Hades/Persephone retelling that I need.

Standout moments:
💙 Hades and his doggos. (I would read a whole book just on the doggies actually)
💙 <I>"Spring seemed completely different. Savage and unpredictable. It's beautiful. And it's been you all along."</i>
💖 Falling asleep on the phone together
💛 Hera sensing what happened to Persephone 🥺
💖 Persephone and Cerberus's relationship 🥹🥹🥹
💙 That whole scene of them in Tartarus
💙 Hades grounding Cerberus
💙 Hades mooning over Persephone's upsidedown heart shaped butt in his fogged up mirror 😂
❤️ Minthe 🥺
💜 My growing hate for Apollo

5 stars - I loved it!

Trigger Warnings: sexual trauma, mental abuse, toxic relationships

Ugh I adore these two! Hades is trying so hard to take care of Persephone and not fall in love with her! I just loved all the pining and arguments he was having with himself. I love revisiting the beginning of this series because it reminds me of all the little moments between these two and how sweet Hades is.

Also, the additional bonus short story about the fur coat makes me hate Apollo even more!
