Somehow this story read like it was told from an author writing in the 1980’s.  The subject matter was current but the phrasing was old fashioned.  I was waiting for the author to call pants “slacks” if you know what I mean.

Reread 2023 - This is so magnificent. 4.5 stars rounded up! Can't wait to continue with Dark Corners!

This was definitely better than her first novel. I loved the podcast element and how the two cases went back and forth, and you didn't know until the end if they connected and how. Definitely go into it with a good headspace because this talks in detail about rape and murder, but I literally felt like I was in a Law and Order episode.

What an awesome audiobook! Loved how the podcasts sound like real ones, and the narrators kept me intrigued. The book just felt real--I really believed that Rachel had her own podcast and was investigating the rape of a teenage girl in a small town during the trial. Parts are disheartening, especially when dealing with how the town treats a rape victim and the social class differences between the poor and rich in the town, but, unfortunately, it seemed very plausible. I was in a bad audiobook rut lately so this was a pleasure to listen to.

Court room drama plus cold case??? AMAZING

3* - I liked it.

Overall, I liked the blend of Hannah, Rachel, and podcast chapters. I didn’t quite have the twist all figured out, but was not shocked by the big reveal because it just made sense. That was refreshing. There were moments that felt really repetitive. Similar to The Escape Room, it was as though the book needed another read through and more things edited out.
