the plot was interesting and the twist did really surprise me. you always think you know where the story is heading and then freida switches it up! i will say that most of the characters felt very one-note; i could see myself enjoying it being a little longer and going into more detail.

I enjoyed this one a lot! As with all of her books, I didn’t guess the twist! I flew through this and could not stop reading!! 4 stars because the multiple mentions of animal cruelty bothered me a lot. While I understand how it fit into the plot and overall story, it was still upsetting and bothersome. Not all the depictions were graphic but a couple were.

Instances of animal cruelty include mentions of a hamster being starved, mentions of a cat being killed in a gruesome manner, mentions of a chipmunk being trapped in a container and left to suffocate, mentions of a cat smothered by a pillow, and mentions of a dog suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. A carpenter ant is also toyed with and it is mentioned the character wants to smash it. On authors website this is listed as “brief mentions.” But it was too many occurrences to be brief in my opinion. Also some were too graphic to be considered brief

This book was wildly predictable right from the beginning and I knew exactly how it was going to end by about 25 pages in. That didn't stop it from being an incredibly fun read of the type that's absolutely perfect when you just want some "thriller trash" escapism. There was definitely nothing cerebral or even a little bit surprising about any of this, but I really enjoyed it anyway and appreciated it for the fun ride it was.

I Will always love Freida's writing style. It is so easy to pick up a book and get lost in it... An easy read but an  enjoyable one.

I wish the ending wasn't as open-ended...

one of the more mediocre reads from McFadden. i didn’t connect with the characters that much. the twist didn’t seem that plausible to me either. overall, not the best from her works.

Frieda McFadden has done it again, folks! 

Erika Cass thinks she has the perfect family until the police show up on her doorstep accusing her 16-year-old son, Liam, of kidnapping and murdering a girl from his class. Liam has always shown signs of dark and disturbing thoughts, but Erika has done her best to help keep Liam away from acting on those thoughts. But now, she's not sure she can protect her son anymore.

My audiobook skipped ahead almost to the end for some reason, so I accidentally found out the twist long before I was supposed to. However, that didn't fully ruin the book for me. I still enjoyed the lead-up and aftermath of the twist.

Thriller lovers will definitely get a kick out of The Perfect Son.

The plot and the twist in this one were quite predictable. It just didn’t hit the same as her other books, there’s way less suspense and some parts just dragged on with unnecessary details.
