A delightful take on noir mysteries of the 40s. I spent half the book double-checking that these strong, independent, unusual women were written by a male author; well done. I am excited to dive into the rest of the series.

It’s an interesting idea, using Nero Wolfe as a template, with two female detectives in 1940s or 50s NY.  The book kept my attention, though the mystery was both convoluted and see through.   I’m not sure Spotswood has captured the feeling of what it would have been like to be a lesbian in that era.  It was entertaining and I would read another one

There were so many elements to this that made me want to love it. Historical fiction! Queer characters! But the thread tying all of the mysteries together didn’t weave together quite right.
