I expected this to be weird and it was, but in a good way.
The first part of the book was great. It was weird, but it was fun to follow. I was also able to follow it and still sort of understand what was happening. It was freaky, but fun.
Unfortunately, the second part let me down.
While the chessboard is a fun idea, it just made it slightly confusing. The way Alice was moving and the characters just didn’t seem that interesting.

Still, the first part was great and I did enjoy reading it.

Ok, so I’ve only read the first story, but god, it was so much better than I thought it would be! I don’t know where I heard rumours about it being slow, but the pace is astonishing (as fits a book for children). The illustrations are gorgeous and the notes by Carroll about when to consider them are thrilling. There is so much depth to be found within this book, but it’s also just as enjoyable if you choose to read it without looking for any deeper meanings, which is why I think it’s so good. I’m really glad I read this!

I apologize for being so un-literary. I came to this book expecting a whimsical, ridiculous and wonderful romp into a crazy world...i was sorely disappointed. I guess i shouldnt have expected so much from a story told for 2 kids...painful to read and going nowhere, Alice of 'Wonderland is rude, boorish and more than a little weird. Perhaps i have come to expect too much from heroines of strange landscapes, like Tiffany of Pratchett's Wee Free Men, to be satisfied with a little girl who talks to herself. Didnt like this book too much

Thoroughly enjoyed both stories, they were clever, brilliantly written and pictures were an added bonus
