This one's pretty creepy but not much happens till the very end, and then you don't get all the answers. When I was young that was okay, but now I wish I'd known which dad to believe - the plant one or the semi plant one.

I remember watching the adaptation of this episode frequently on the clamshell case VHS as a kid and really liking it. There’s a cool concept here ala an Invasion of the body snatchers story for kids, however the pacing can be slow and meandering half of the book.
Even as a kid I never liked the “fake out” twist endings that frequent these books and it’s just heightened in annoyance revisiting them as an adult, it’s like the cheap jump scare.
I will say though the heart of these books particular this one is the family element. Whatever lame scares Stine conceives in his books, the family dynamic is strong.

Read this with my 7 year old, and she loved it. The suspense was fantastic, and the plot twist was great for young readers. For a chapter book, she was very vested in what was going to happen. She made us finish it in two days.

Definitely my favorite so far! I at times felt scared myself! I got chills when R.L Stine described the fear of not being able to trust a parent anymore. the characters had Actual character development and had a good relationship with each other! I am definitely impressed!

I liked this one, probably more than the first in the series. A few good twists, and some tropes that I wasn't expecting to see next to each other :) A quick, page-turning read.
