Kids will love that they can see the things in the dirt that the characters are missing

Love the illustrations and the mystery

Perfect, you really have to watch the pictures.

For a book with a fairly tranquil, earthy color palette, it does a really good job of building tension and anticipation. I bet it would be fun to use with preschoolers.

Maybe I am just a big texture person, but I loved how thick the pages were on the copy I read. It just felt satisfying to hold and turn the pages.
I loved the irony and how close the kids got to finding treasure over and over AND OVER again. I can imagine reading this with a kid and them just screaming, "its right there!!" But, hey, its a learning experience! There are lots of moments in life where you see someone doing something and you tell them how much easier and likely better it would be to do something slightly different...but they don't, and it doesn't go how they wanted. So you're just left there thinking "I told you so."

High quality paper, gorgeous design, freaky story, Minecraft. Another winner from these two.

I love this book! Anytime I need a book that makes the kids gasp or stare agape at the illustrations - this is it. Not everyone sees the changes from beginning to end, so it's fun to go back and compare.

4.5/5 stars

I read this book out loud to a small group of students in grades 2-5. They loved this one! They had the most fun with the pages where Sam and Dave where digging aaaaaalmost to the treasure, but then just missed it. They also loved describing what was happening on the pages with no text and making predictions about what would happen next.

This is definitely a favorite of all the books I've used for read-alouds in the 2020-2021 school year. I will 100% read it again!

Very excited to read this to kids, equal parts frustrating and delightful

Cute story whose title pretty much sums up the whole thing. But the dog...the dog is (of course, aren't all dogs?) awesome and smart.
