I am an elementary school librarian. This simple, short book is a huge hit with all of the young children ( ages 4-8). The kids are fully engaged with the characters, yelling out instructions and exclamations throughout the story.

The cutest book! My 7yo read this out loud to me. We both loved the illustrations and laughed at the story! Sam & Dave are quite the pair- a spectacular pair, one might say!

A cute picture book about two boys digging a hole for treasure. Their dog can sniff it out but the boys seem to just miss it every time. Really cute story with excellent illustrations.

My 3.5 year olds thought it was funny that the boys keep missing the diamonds. It was fun to read this with them.
The ending was too high level for them but I liked the possibilities that the ending raised. I will have to try it out on my older one.

My 7-year-old son thought this book was hilarious! The illustrations are great. We went with the "it was all a dream" theory in the end.

I silly and odd book about two boys who are digging for treasure. They keep changing directions in their digging and keep missing the diamonds. The ending was strange with them falling down and landing back where they started.

After previewing a copy at the Tattered Cover this week, I was delighted to find this "buried treasure" in my stack of holds at the library today. Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best ... like chocolate milk, animal crackers, and dog bones, right?

Thanks to illustrator J. Klassen for including the curious cat.

Hilarity ensues as you read this aloud to kids...they are so engaged in the trials of Sam and Dave!

I enjoyed Klassen's illustrations and the seen but not mentioned treasures. Maybe I will use this for small groups or classes to get children to explain the ending to me.

I didn't like the misrepresentation of science in this book, but the idea was cute.
