I am always in the mood for a good Poirot, but I find I am a bigger fan of the novels than the short stories. They were too fast, didn't really give you a feel for the characters, and pretty misogynic. Though maybe this was the case for other Poirot mysteries and I didn't really pay attention or the characters were better fleshed out, so she wrote her way out. But still pleasant to have on as I did errands or puttered around the kitchen.

I'm a huge fan of short stories. I'm a huge fan of Poirot. This book was just perfect for me. Yes, it wound up being more hockey because of the theme, but I've never minded hockey, and I recommend it to anyone!

Really weak, since there are 12 mysteries compressed into 200 pages. I did enjoy how Poirot attempted to modernize the Hercules labours though.

Racconti brevi

Quite dull. This may sound disturbing but I was longing for murder cases instead of "petty" crimes. Murders have offered so much more space for psychological scrutiny of human psyche in Christie's books. The only memorable thing in these stories was the night club. Oh, I wish something like that really existed! I'd love to lounge and dance in hell :P Although that dog wouldn't probably be allowed in the premises. Still, this one offered reasonably well a distraction from growing pile of uni assignments and exams.

In The Labors of Hercules, Poirot is considering retiring and when a conversation with a friend turns to the 12 heroic deeds of the Greek hero Hercules, Hercule Poirot decides to go out on 12 cases that align with these deeds.

Some cases were important and some were more trivial, but all were entertaining. I think the funniest one to me was The Arcadian Deer, in which Poirot chases a ladies maid across Europe for a car mechanic! I really enjoyed all the tales, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be The Stymphalean Birds—so clever!

As I have stated before, I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, but for Christie I will make the exception, especially when Hercule Poirot is involved!

1. I liked all stories except the last two because they were less psychology and more event based and I do not read Christie for event based puzzles.

It's always nice to revisit Hercule. I cut my teeth on Agatha Christie's books, and this was a good one.
