Brit Bennett is an amazing writer, but after reading the masterpiece that is The Vanishing Half, this one fell flat for me. And I didn’t love the narration of it. It is still good and worth a read, but maybe read this one before The Vanishing Half.

I loved this book. Even more than the Vanishing Half. When I read it, I could hear the voice of my mother and all the black mothers I grew up around. I didn't love the ending, but the dialogue and drama, and the strong church vibes were like a hug from childhood.
