Jane Austen meets pirates, but probably not in the way you’re thinking! A very fun read

Is it bad that I adored the parts with Constantinopla (sp?; I listened to the audio version) and Queen Victoria far more than anything having to do with our plucky heroine? My brain kept zoning out for the main storyline, but loved the side parts.

Bonus star for Ned's final grand gesture of love. Any guy who
Spoiler steals an entire library for me
is definite marriage material.

This book was a wild ride. It was all over the place, and chaotic but not in the worst way. The “magic” system, if that’s what we’re calling it, is confusing and not explained at all. They’re pirates who do magic? And are not in the water or near boats? The book itself was kind of entertaining, also very confusing at some parts. Was it my favorite? No. Am I gonna read the next one? Yes

I was looking forward reading this book but it just didn't work for me. It's historical fantasy book and romance last. I was annoying with white feminism but it was written well. Romance was flat to me and overall meh.

It felt like this book really wanted to be The Princess Bride. It was not. As a fan of stories set in this era and fantasy, I was excited to dive into it. However, it failed to capture the essence of the time (too trashy) and the fantasy elements were beyond my suspension of disbelief. The plot had potential, but it became overwhelmed with excessive elements (flying houses and castles, murderous plots, far-to-obvious family secrets), preventing any meaningful emotional connection to the characters.

Not my cup of tea. I had high hopes from social media but I found the writing style too weird and affective. The characters felt very 2-D to me, so I couldn't get into the romance of it. Disappointed.
