This is book 2 but since I haven't read book 1, I can only base my review on what I read in this book. It would have made it a bit easier for me to follow the relationship lines had I read the first book, but it wasn't enough of an issue that I had problems understanding what was going on. It also doesn't end in a cliffhanger but with a HEA. So in that respect, this is a standalone novel. I didn't mind this book. There are much worse books out there to fill your time with but the way that Corey kept blowing hot & cold just annoyed me. He treated Jessica abominably sometimes but that was ok because he was dealing with his own issues. What?! I get where the character was coming from, but he didn't really engender much sympathy from me. He was a good father trying to do the best for his son. Overall, it's not a bad book for a good quick read. As far as I know, this is the first book I've read from this author but I would be happy to read another.
