This is another book K and I listened to on audio book while driving on various adventures. We meet Oliva Prior, a young orphan who is unable to speak. All she knows of her parents is in the form of a journal left by her mother (which seems to show her slowly going crazy). The final line of the journal tells Olivia never to go to Gallant - so when a letter arrives from a mysterious uncle inviting her to come live at Gallant - of course she goes.  There she begins trying to unravel the mystery of her family and her own unique powers.

I recently read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by the same author and really enjoyed it, and this book may suffer a bit from comparison. Not that it was bad by any means, but just lacked a bit of oomph. And there were a few plot points that I felt more could have been done with.  However, it was still pretty engaging, and there are some excellent spooky vibes, so if you’re looking for some fun reads for the upcoming spooky season this might not be a bad book to pick up.

This book honestly came out of no where for me. This was a Christmas present I received three years ago that I finally got around to reading. I quite frankly am mad at myself for not reading it sooner.

To me it gives the feeling that Ghost Files by Apryl Baker and Coraline have been mixed together to create Gallant. I love this story of wanting to find a home and realizing what home really is. This is also my first time reading anything by V.E. Schwab and it's safe to say it won't be my last.

Highly recommended!
